Happy Mardi Gras....!
Why is everything so doggone confusing?
Can't anything just be simple?
Even our English language can be a bit of a challenge. Especially for someone like me.
For instance, did you know that tomorrow is Mardi Gras?
Did you know that another name for Mardi Gras is "Fat Tuesday"?
Yep It comes from the French phrase meaning
"Mardi" - Tuesday
"Gras" - Fat
So why don't we call it Tuesday Fat rather than Fat Tuesday?
Who knows! Ask the French? After all they are the ones that put the noun before the adjective.
Maybe that's why I never did real well in high school French!
Claude: Comment t'allez vous?
Bertrande: Tres bien merci et vous?
Claude: Tres bien!
A similar challenge comes up when speaking English. No?
Have you ever noticed how many different ways there are to say the same exact thing?
For instance how many ways are there to say: "Two (2) for the price of one (1)"?
Let's see, you can say...
... Buy one get one free.
... Buy two get half off!
...Buy two get fifty percent off.
... Buy one get a second one free.
No matter how you say it, they all mean the same exact thing.
Wonder how the French would say it?
It doesn't really matter, but I just thought I'd remind you that Wednesday
is our buy one get one free special offer at www.tlcIT.com.
You can read all about it on the blog entry "Did you Win?"
